Drywall Recycling Procedures
After a big building or remodeling project, it is odds are that you will get a good bit of drywall left to get rid of. Whether all you have is a few scraps or a ton of junk gypsum pieces, drywall recycling is an important thing that you must do.
Even though it seems to be an easier choice to simply haul those remains to a waste bin and send it for dumping at the nearest landfill, you should know that when trashed in landfills, sheetrock emits polluting emanations such as hydrogen sulfide or sulfur dioxide.
But recycling gypsum walls is beneficially in various ways. It can be used to do other projects, and thus saves spending, creates business opportunities, and is more earth friendly.
It is often chipped to newer drywall pieces, could be used in some cements, and has recently been discovered as a soil amendment. Some states such as California has implemented this amendment, noticing that it is a good source of calcium and sulfur for crops in natural application. While this usage is still being checked and under some discussion, there is no question that the future will unveil many more uses for this recycled material.
So how do you recycle drywall? You must at first locate a gypsum boards recycling facility. We have for example a construction waste recycling center in Montreal, called Recyconstruction that will take these type of material. Most recycling companies are now taking sheetrock, but you should plan to contact in advance to make sure. You should also determine if you will need to take the product to the recycling site with your own transport. Some places such as Recyconstruction will actually bring a truck to pick it up for you.
It is not every recycling centers will in fact take every type of gypsum boards the same way Recyconstruction does. You might have to closely verify the gypsum board before you take it in to the recycling center.
If you are working on a project for a long term, it is a smart move to set aside a large bin specifically for that scrap. This will remove excessive confusion while you are keeping these for the recycling center. Convince everyone to become involved in the project and make them are aware of which bin is for and that you plan of recycling its contents.
If you are involved in an expensive project, you may want to invest in your very own recycling truck. That way you will not have any worry about it and can rest with peace that you are doing your part to make the best actions for the planet.
If you don’t have time to do everything right with this project yourself and do not want to take a recycling pickup service, you could also donate your biggest drywall material to a nonprofit organization that needs it.Some of these NGO will make use of the drywall to build a center or shelters for those in need.
