If you do not engage in a recycling program then shame on you. This is your home. It is where you eat, sleep, breathe and play each day. Every small step towards reducing the amount of garbage in our landfills is a step in the right direction to preserving the environment. Consider it your duty to set a great example by sorting your garbage into recyclables to help reduce the amount of trash being sent to your local landfill each month. You will find that it is so very easy.

Global climate change is a very real threat to the preservation of this planet. You have probably seen television ads focusing on new hybrid vehicles that can help save the environment by producing less toxic byproducts from the burning of fossil fuels. Does the burning of trash cross your mind as ways you can help save the environment. Our landfills are becoming overflowing with hazardous waste and other products that are not biodegradable. Plastic water bottles, disposable diapers and styrofoam containers, to name a few, are all becoming huge problems in most areas of the world.

Recycling is pretty easy once you get everything sorted. Information on learning how to sort the materials is easily found on the internet and in pamphlets from the Environmental Protection Agency. You will need to sort out the recyclables into the appropriate bins and from there the recyclable materials are sent on their way to becoming something else for use. You can also utilize those food scraps and waste trimmings from the yard in a compost heap.

If every person did their part to help combat overflowing landfills, then we could reduce our waste by fifty percent. That is half the amount going into landfills today. Perhaps there will come a time when we no longer have to continuously find new places to bury our waste. Plastics would be reused. Organic materials would be turned back into the soil to enrich the ground for crops. It is a lovely sentiment and thought but not enough people are doing their part to help make this a cleaner world and prevent global warming causes.

The need for more aggressive recycling programs is pressing. If we do not take action to prevent the overfilling of landfills we could find ourselves in a world of hurt. Local sanitation programs need individuals to help by recycling their materials at home. Utilize as many recycled products as you can. The more recycled materials you purchase, such as benches, rubber mats and notebook paper, the more incentive to keep on with the trend to recycle the materials you already have used in your home.

Many people today have considered solar energy as an alternative for electric energy, since solar energy is free and unlimited in quantity. Throughout this article you will learn how to build solar panels to capitalize on that solar energy for your own benefits.

1. Why You Should Build Yourself

Buying readymade solar panel can cost you $2000-$3000, compare that with building your own self that can only cost less than $500, beside it is a fun process you can learn to do. Let´s take at some basic principles to build your own solar panels successfully.

2. Solar Cells

Solar cells are the necessary equipment for solar panels. Solar cells or known as photovoltaic cells convert solar energy into electric energy that you can use to supply your house.

3. A Concise Guide To Build Your Own Solar Panels

The first thing you need to have is semiconductor on the cell´s surface. This is where light will be gathered. Usually the semiconductor is made from silicon. Aside from using silicon, there is another type of semiconductor that uses cuprous oxide. In this case you need to heat copper first before producing the copper oxide.

If you find it difficult you can buy the different parts of solar panel at local supplier and assemble it at once. This is a cheaper method than buying the whole readymade package.

The next step is to loosen the incoming electrons and send it to a pre-determined place.
After building the semiconductor, you need to mix the semiconductor with other elements that have an effect of changing their polarity this way you can create an effect to loosen the electron. The last step is direct the electron to a pre-determined direction and convert it to electric energy.

Michael Harvey has written a guide that provides a step by step guide on how to build your own solar powered generator.

If you want to learn how to generate your own solar power yourself, check out Michael Harvey Earth4Energy guide.

If this is the first time you have encountered the term ethanol, this is certainly a good time to know more about it and what it can also benefit us on a personal level and as a country.

Ethanol is a valuable product for several reasons. For one, ethanol is an environmentally friendly product. Compared to gasoline, it is not as harmful to nature. Cars that are fueled with ethanol yield emissions that have fewer amounts of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Ethanol also emits similar or even less amounts of hydrocarbon and nitrogenous oxides. And in recent times there has been a boom in the construction of ethanol plants.

Aside from the environmental benefits, ethanol is also easily accessible and uncomplicated to use. Several car companies have also appreciated the use of ethanol and are now producing cars that utilize ethanol fuel for their customers. Besides this benefit, ethanol is also favorable to our nation’s economy.

Because ethanol can be generated locally in the United States, we can lessen our dependence on obtaining fuel from other countries. It can be a step to more independence in terms of fuel. Especially in these times when there are conflicting issues with other countries and the steep price needed to maintain our fuel supply, the use of ethanol will be beneficial.

The consumption of ethanol costs significantly less for every gallon. In addition, if ethanol is produced locally, the price of ethanol fuel would be less volatile than the price of fuels obtained from other countries.

The vitality of ethanol justifies the need to increase awareness of the benefits of ethanol on both personal and national levels. If there are more ethanol plants, it will also help us financially. Still, we also need to consider ethanol plant emissions during the production of such fuel alternative. We need to find out if the ethanol plant emissions are worth it.

Some research studies have already been conducted by scientists regarding ethanol plant emissions. Based on the different studies performed over time, results show that although the plants will produce ethanol plant emissions, the amount produced is actually minimal.

Neither will the ethanol plant emissions outweigh the beneficial effects from the ethanol generated or manufactured by these plants. Furthermore, ethanol plant emissions are far less in amount from the huge amounts produced by plants producing other types of fuel. Thus, worrying about it is unnecessary and maintaining our point of view on its many benefits will be far more worthwhile.

The Benefits of Solar Power

The sun produces large amounts of heat that are transmitted down to the earth’s surface. When the sun’s rays reach the earth the intensity of the heat directly from the sun is not as hot because some of the heat is rerouted before it reaches the earth’s atmosphere. When the sun is hot and it is summer time we think that it couldn’t get very much hotter as the mid day sun makes your run for shade, but it can get hotter if it wasn’t rerouted.

Solar power can be hot enough to power machinery and that is exactly what was discovered over one hundred years ago when a man working on some equipment wondered if steam from the heat of the day could be used to power machinery. He was correct and thus began a new form of production, heat and electricity. Today solar power is being used all across the world. The solar power is being concentrated into a solar source where the heat is used in a variety of ways. We still rely on our way of heating and powering our homes but in the future it may all be powered by the sun. It is cost effective to use home solar power as the only expense you have is in your solar source.

In order to use a solar power system you will need to have something that can attract the sun and allow the heat to be concentrated where it can stay warm for a long period of time. This is fairly easy when you consider all the knowledge and resources that we already have access to. When you use solar power for heating and power electricity you cannot go wrong.

Solar power is entrusted in space shuttles as they know that this will help produce the most efficient energy with the least amount of complications. The solar panels are faced toward the sun at all times in order to be able to power the shuttle efficiently. There are fewer problems from solar power than with other methods. Even though there are days that there are clouds in the sky and rain, snow or other weather, it is still possible to produce enough heat in your solar source to create enough energy to last until the sun can come back down. Solar power is in our future we need to be ready for it. Right now solar power is only being used by those who are more aware and worried about our earth’s atmosphere when it is a concern that we should all be worried about.

We can learn a lot from the past and the way that solar power was used. Every minute of the sunlight was used doing everything that needed done because after the sun went down there was no more light. I don’t think we could do that now. Solar power panels have so many benefits for us that we don’t realize all of them and how it is more efficient to use the solar power than other ways.

Many of us cruise through our daily lives completely oblivious to such things as a carbon footprint. The products we use have an impact on the crisis of global warming and add to the greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere. Our day to day lives are led in such a way that we simply don’t have the time or inclination to stop and wonder how our actions affect the larger picture.

I’ll give you a simple personal example of how my family takes energy use for granted. In our house we have multiple digital clocks and they all run 24 hours a day, one in each room - the microwave, the conventional oven, the CD player, the stereo and in each bedroom all has a clock and each one is sucking up passive energy we could be saving, and we don’t give it a thought. It’s just one of the assumed “rights” of living in a modern affluent society, we may not use it but we don’t mind paying for it regardless. It may be a little shocking for some people to learn exactly what the level of carbon emissions they produce each year is, as well as the added costs they are incurring simply by being blase about the little things.

If You Don’t Know It, You Can’t Change It

The previous heading sums up a whole range of human instincts and precisely describes one of the roadblocks in front of those trying to educate people on the importance of reducing our carbon footprint. It only takes a gentle reminder that there are consequences for the actions taken on a daily basis that people begin to realise that there is a need to change.

It’s only when you find out that the yearly average carbon dioxide production for running a car stands at two and a half tonnes that it hits home that there may be a problem. It also allows you to then set a goal to lower your number for the next year. Suddenly you have a goal – a quantifiable goal – that you can set for yourself and aim for with real purpose. There will be no way of definitively knowing the damage you are doing with your carbon footprint without some means of calculation. Trying to produce less in the future would be next to impossible to gauge.

The fact that we each stand to get a direct benefit in terms of cost to reducing our carbon footprint should have people more than a little interested. You save money! The word will continue to leak out while, hopefully, carbon dioxide doesn’t.

We live in a throw-away society

We’re wasteful. Not just on an individual level, but on a global scale as well. Our lifestyle is simply unsustainable in terms of the world’s resources we consume.

The subject of unnecessary waste in our society came sharply into focus for my wife and me over the last couple of years due to numerous trips to take garbage to the county dump.

When we were renovating our cabin we took construction scrap to the dump on a regular basis (along with our wet garbage). We began to notice a considerable number of perfectly good items that had been thrown out. After seeing this for some time (and rescuing numerous perfectly good items along the way), we started to ask, “What can we do about it?”

We started changing our lifestyle to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Although we may think we can’t make a difference individually, small steps taken on an individual level can and do make a difference. We must each do our own small part to minimize the waste and excess consumption in our society. Change is possible… indeed, it’s absolutely necessary.

One of the most challenging aspects of doing this is the constant bombardment from the media… the non-stop stream of powerful advertising attempting to convince us that we need the latest and greatest gadgets, toys, electronics, cars, and on and on. It’s a powerful and extremely effective influence.

And it seems that, unfortunately, a lot of people are too lazy and/or simply don’t think about the fact that something that they are throwing away could be used and appreciated by someone else. Nor do they think about the landfill being taken up by perfectly good and useful items.

Our dump experience spawned the idea of a series of short video vignettes that would highlight this sad situation. Yes, it’s a serious topic, but we wanted to have a little fun with it in order to highlight the number of perfectly good items that were being thrown into the dump every week. Thus was born “Adventures with Fitzgerald the Dump Truck”. The episodes can be seen on the Rustic Lodge Lifestyle home page.

What can you do?

Are you concerned about unnecessary consumerism and the corresponding waste? If so consider taking some of the following steps:

Turn off

Break free of the insidious power of commercials by limiting your exposure to them… and if you have children, this is even more important. Setting the right example becomes paramount in teaching the next generation that it is not necessary to have the newest, most recent model of everything!

Teach them that happiness does not come from a store! We limit our exposure to the constant barrage of commercial messages. We rarely watch TV, we listen to public radio, and have very few subscriptions to magazines that come to the house.

Consequently we are blissfully unaware of so much of the product marketing and thus are not even tempted to rush out to buy this or that “must have” gizmo. We’ve never had a TV at our country lodge, so when the grandchildren visit, there is no temptation to watch it… it just isn’t part of the “lodge experience”.

Take a critical look

What are you throwing away? Get in the habit of looking critically at all of your household waste. Is it really garbage? Can it be put to use by someone else? Can you compost your wet garbage? Are you recycling everything that is possible to recycle? We have two or three charities that call us regularly to ask if we have any donations they can pick up. Some of them let us know we can call them any time for an additional pickup of clothing and household items. Check for charities that offer this service in your area.

Taking this simple step would see items such as stuffed toys (we’ve seen full boxes of perfectly good ones at the dump - some brand new with the tags still on), other toys, bikes, folding chairs, lamps, tables, furniture, and much more, put to good use.

Episode one of the “Fitzgerald” series highlights many of the items that we rescued from the dump. Other episodes show many perfectly good items that had been thrown away, but which we personally didn’t take.

Challenge each other

Families can get together and set up challenges to minimize waste. At the office, organize a waste awareness day. Get your boss involved… or if you are the boss, you set the tone. Even neighborhoods can activate to increase awareness.

These are just a few suggestions to start the creative juices flowing. Each one of us must start taking individual responsibility to reduce the resource footprint on our fragile planet. Reducing our personal waste by limiting unnecessary consumerism, and through reuse and recycling are important actions for all of us.

Imagine floating above the earth in a space shuttle and looking down at our tiny planet. As you are looking down you see some of the amazing things put together by humans on this earth, such as the Great Wall of China. Unfortunately, there is also something that can be seen from space that the people of this planet should not be proud of – the landfill in Staten Island, NY. Perhaps after seeing this from space it would encourage citizens to recycle!

There are huge volumes of materials that people all over the world consume each day. When we just throw it away in the trash it has to go somewhere, usually to a landfill. These take up very large areas and it is becoming more difficult to figure out Where will we ever put all of it. There is also the question of the long term effects it will have on the Earth later on. One way to cut down on this though is to recycle what we can. That means to use it again in another form.

There are many different things that can be recycled. Some of the major ones are:
Plastic
Glass
Metal
Paper
Rubber

You can save cans from soda and recycle them for the aluminum. Metal scraps from cars and other types of building and welding can be melted down and used again. We use large volumes of paper but it can be recycled as well. Rubber, the main source of it as waste comes from tires for vehicles, can be recycled as well to make new tires. Glass and plastic can also be recycled. All of these efforts really make a huge dent in the amount of it that ends up in landfills to be buried.

If individuals begin to recycle there are many benefits to the planet, such as cleaner water for drinking and bathing, and healthier plants and animals. It’s estimated that each year well over one million sea mammals, turtles, and sea birds are killed from litter. Sometimes this includes threatened species, and it could all be avoided if the population decided to recycle!

Those unfamiliar with the recycling program may be wondering what they can and cannot recycle! You can recycle glass bottles and jars, aluminum, cardboard, paper bags, newspapers, metal cans, frozen food boxes, empty aerosol cans, and much more. You cannot recycle Styrofoam packaging, sneakers, toxic product containers, and ceramics. Check with your local recycle plant to see exactly what they can handle and how to get it to them.

Large items can also be recycled, such as scrap metal from cars, siding, and window/door frames. In addition to being able to recycle these items because it is environmentally friendly, scrap yards are currently paying top prices for aluminum, copper, brass, and other such metals. Loading up a truck with scrap metal to recycle at the local scrap yard could make one a hefty profit as well as help keep the planet a little bit cleaner!

While some cities, schools, and businesses already recycle regularly, it is always a great idea to encourage those in your local area to recycle. A great way to let local lawmakers know that many people are interested in helping in this process are petitions. It can be encouraged not only to recycle the waste of that individual town or business, but also to help by incorporating the use of recycled papers and other materials into their business methods. The more towns and businesses hear that their citizens, employees, or costumers value their recycling efforts the more likely they are to begin to recycle on a daily basis.

On a smaller level, beginning to help by recycling in at home is also a great idea. Every little bit helps. Collect old newspapers, egg cartons, and magazines instead of throwing them out each week and donate them to schools for art projects. Old clothing can always be donated to local charities instead of creating more waste in landfills, as well as old furniture. If old clothing and blankets are not in good condition, local animal shelters are always in need of these items for rags or pet bedding.

If you were to take one load per week of such items to be recycled, just think the difference it would make overall. Many schools teach children about recycling and they are very excited to come home and implement what they have learned. Be willing to modify your behaviors in order to help them accomplish some great ways to recycle.

Please remember, recycling is easy and you will be helping reduce pollution by recycling! You can learn more about recycling

Click Here To Learn How To Build Your Own Solar and Wind Power System. There are lots of interesting facts about solar energy. Educating yourself about this will prove to be beneficial in the long run. You can share the information to your loved ones. You can teach them of ways on how they can help to conserve the energy. You can also do your share to help this method to advance if you are a genius in the field. But if you are an ordinary citizen who only wants to enjoy, then feast on. But remember that you also have responsibilities to the environment that you must accomplish in order to do your part in the whole scheme of things.

The Facts that Matter

1. Solar radiation makes it possible for the energy coming from the sun to be used as power source and energy that can in turn be used for many purposes. The technology on this aspect is characterized in two ways. They can either be passive or active. This will depend on the methods that are used to get, convert and allocate sunlight.

What are active solar techniques? These utilize pumps, photovoltaic panels and fans to renovate sunlight into useful resources. These aim to increase the energy supply that is why these can also be referred as supply side technologies. The passive solar techniques, on the other hand, use only selected resources with constructive thermal properties, utilize the kind of spaces that can circulate air naturally and apply the position of buildings and structures towards the sun. These will lessen the need for other sources and can also be referred as the demand side technology.

2. Solar energy has influenced many factors that surround people. This can be referred in planning and designing buildings. This process can be rooted back at the early days of the architectural history. The Greeks and the Chinese first used such factor in building and constructing their architectural pieces and on their planning methods.

3. Solar energy is also being utilized by the agricultural sector because they rely heavily on its benefits in order to gain more harvest. They developed ways in order to plant the kind of crops that will grow according to the amount of sun that they will be getting for the season. This can also be used to dry the crops, pump water, brooding of chicks and to dry animal manures that can later be used as fertilizers.

4. On seasons like the Little Ice Age, fruit walls were used by French and Chinese farmers to be able to collect and store solar energy to help them keep the plants warm and to speedy up the process of ripening of fruits. These walls serve as the thermal masses. The fruit walls that were first developed were perpendicular to the ground and faced the south direction. Over time, innovations were done and slopping walls were used to gain more advantage from the sun.

5. To convert the solar light into heat, people have developed greenhouses. These enable the production and cultivation of specialty crops all year round. Such innovation made it possible for crops to be produced in untimely seasons and in places where you think that those plants won’t grow.

6. People have even manged to build solar powered cars. Unfortunately most people can’t buy one yet. So in the meantime be sure to look into compare on line auto insurance quotes.

And these are only some of the interesting facts about solar energy. These give you a good peek at how wonderful nature is and how people have developed ways to use it to advance in many aspects of their lives. Before using it on your home be sure to look at cheap home insurance quotes.

The upward movement of electrcity and gas prices over recent years has prompted people to look for alternatives that are cheaper and better for the environment. If you have taken a car journey to any remote parts of the country, you will porbably have seen banks of wind turbines scattered acros the countryside or even in parts of the sea. Indeed, the are pretty hard to miss as they consist of a large pylon or tower with a large spinning (hopefully) rotor at the peak. The rotors are moved by the strength of the wind that is converted to electrical energy by a generator. Utility companies will sell this electricity to homeowners connected to their grid.

It is becoming popular for many people to build their own windmill systems to create electricity. This can save them a bit of money on utility bills and lessen the reliance on fossils fuels to power their home. This short article will detail the initial planning, viability and how to make a home built wind generator.

Why a Home Built Wind Generator ?

Traditionally wind generators are found in remote or isolated homes that have to find alternate ways to create power rather than rely on the grid for power. As a general guideline, your home needs a clear, unobstructed area of land to construct the wind generator. Other ways to generate energy and often used alongside wind power. So it can be used along with a gasoline generator or, more commonly these days, a solar power system.

The benefit of having a solar/wind combination home power system is that the wind can work when the solar power system cannot (when the Sun is down or at night time). Thus your hybrid energy creating system is fully operational all the time.

Two considerations when it comes to home wind generators is that you have enough wind and enough space. If you live in a built up area then it is a good idea to consider any concerns your neighbors may have about a large construction close to their home. It is good practice to inform your neighbors that you are embarking on such a project as it will keep them on side and more tolerant during the construction.

Kit Versus Do It Yourself

The next question is whether to buy a kit or do it yourself. The basic argument for each option comes down to the cost. A kit will cost more but you will probably find it easier to put up and may well save time on the project. You may even get support from the vendor when installing the system if you are not comfortable with DIY work.

A home grown or built system will cost less but will be harder to make and could take more time to put up. You expertise in DIY will be a factor in this. You can make your job easier by getting one of the many DIY guides that are available now.

A home built wind generator following one of these guides can be built for around $200 which is far cheaper than buying a kit or getting it installed by a professional.

The amount of electricity that you get from your wind turbine will obviously dpend on the wind strength and consistency and the size of the rotors. Depending on where you are located, a wind generator could go a long way to providing all the energy you need or may just knock a few bucks off your energy bill each month.

Click Here To Learn How To Create Your Own Renewable Energy Energy System. The US is not a leading user of solar energy for a very obvious reason: they can still afford to buy fossil fuels from the international market. In other countries the oil prices are ten times higher in the US and sometimes going for the alternative is a lot better in the long run. Today, more and more countries are looking at solar energy as a primary source of power. There are several countries which can be considered as at the helm of solar energy technology.

The number one use of solar energy is Germany. It captures almost 50% of the world market of photovoltaic cells. Nowhere else in the world can you find the most number of households with solar panels installed on their roof tops. Germany has this Renewable Energies Laws (EEG) which passed in 2000. The law certainly helped Germans feel the need to go renewable.

According to statistics, Germans invested nearly US$5 billion in solar photovoltaic systems and have contributed considerable in the growth of the solar energy market. Although most of the things that we see are solar panels, it doesn’t mean that Germany’s solar industry is not limited to the production of photovoltaic cells for electricity. Other notable usage in Germany includes solar panels for home water heating system. Some news indicate that the German solar hot water market earns fU.S.$1.5 billion per year.

The “solar park” in Arnstein, Bavaria, Germany is one of the biggest photovoltaic plants in the world. It became operational in 2006 and with more than 1,400 PV solar panels, it can produce 12 megawatts of energy.

The next biggest country in terms of usage of solar energy is Spain. The solar energy usage in the country, more specifically the photovoltaic cells usage, has a world market share of 27%. Spain has no sign of slowing down its aggressive and pro-active approach in solar energy. Solar fields are being constructed one of the latest ones is the 60 MW solar field in Olmedilla de Alarcón, near Cuenca.

There are other big solar plants in Spain and these include the solar park 12 miles outside of Salamanca, Salamanca, Spain which have 70,000 PV panels divided into three 36-hectare arrays. The arrays produce an output is 13.8 megawatts and has been powering roughly 5,000 homes since it opened in 2007.

And the rest of the world follow Germany and Spain. Japan and the US still have a market share in the photovoltaic world market. The two countries both have an 8% market share, a far cry from Germany and Spain. Nevertheless, it is quite important that countries continue to improve their status in the world solar market. In the mean time you can save money on your car by getting Find Your Instant Online Auto Insurance Quotes Here.

Other notable country that uses solar power includes Alegeria, Australia, Italy, and Portugal. Aside from the rich European countries, people in Israel and India are realizing the importance of having alternative sources of energy.

These are the countries on the helm of solar energy technology. But, other countries are slowly catching up. The government of Israel, for example, required all residential buildings to install solar water heating systems in the early 90s. Today, business establishments like hotels and office buildings are trying to use solar power as an alternative from using fossil fuels whose prices continue to soar in the world market.

India is facing a similar energy crisis and they are also looking at solar energy to get them through it. But if you are looking at a system for your home be sure to inquire about house insurance quotes.
