There are many annoyances associated with the standard fluorescent tubes. Their unique design has made T8 LED tubes technically really advanced than traditional tubes.

Until the late 20th Century, many households and offices banked on standard fluorescent tubes. However, with the advent of the 21st century a new era in home lighting was discovered. T8 LED tubes were born. These tubes have an innovative design which makes them versatile. They last longer than standard tubes. Manufactured with a robust design, T8 LED tubes are flicker free. It has be proven that the utility bill can be brought down by around 65% with the use of T8 LED tubes. These tubes start almost immediately and have minimal interference level.

Since these tubes bear a low carbon footprint with decreasing costs in the long run, many households and companies are making a switch to T8 LED Tubes. T8 LED Tubes are perfect for household lighting. You will notice a significant difference in the life span of the bulb once you start using T8 LED tubes. There is an abundant supply of these tubes which are perfect to control energy bills.

More power at a less cost is what the T8 LED tube is all about. T8 LED lighting is widely used in offices, walkways and signage’s. The tubes switch on instantly. Installation of these tubes are a breeze. Due to the superior quality of T8 LED tubes, there is less maintenance involved. Monthly financial outgoings tend to descent which is a mark of savings. They now have an improvised specification that results in greater performance. These tubes are seen in many bakeries, stores and markets. Since they are brighter, T8 LED Tubes make an brilliant choice at home and work. T8 LED tubes are indeed a perfect way to save money.

iTreecycle supplies T8 LED tubes and plants one tree for every product it sells. The trees are planted in the name of the buyer and guaranteed by the United Nations Environment Programme: Plant for the Planet Billion Tree Campaign. We plant 1 tree for each product sold, with the exception of recycling where we plant 1 tree for each full box of empty cartridges sent to us. And for office supplies where we plant 1 tree for each 40 GBP spent.

After a big building or remodeling project, it is odds are that you will get a good bit of drywall left to get rid of. Whether all you have is a few scraps or a ton of junk gypsum pieces, drywall recycling is an important thing that you must do.

Even though it seems to be an easier choice to simply haul those remains to a waste bin and send it for dumping at the nearest landfill, you should know that when trashed in landfills, sheetrock emits polluting emanations such as hydrogen sulfide or sulfur dioxide.

But recycling gypsum walls is beneficially in various ways. It can be used to do other projects, and thus saves spending, creates business opportunities, and is more earth friendly.

It is often chipped to newer drywall pieces, could be used in some cements, and has recently been discovered as a soil amendment. Some states such as California has implemented this amendment, noticing that it is a good source of calcium and sulfur for crops in natural application. While this usage is still being checked and under some discussion, there is no question that the future will unveil many more uses for this recycled material.

So how do you recycle drywall? You must at first locate a gypsum boards recycling facility. We have for example a construction waste recycling center in Montreal, called Recyconstruction that will take these type of material. Most recycling companies are now taking sheetrock, but you should plan to contact in advance to make sure. You should also determine if you will need to take the product to the recycling site with your own transport. Some places such as Recyconstruction will actually bring a truck to pick it up for you.

It is not every recycling centers will in fact take every type of gypsum boards the same way Recyconstruction does. You might have to closely verify the gypsum board before you take it in to the recycling center.

If you are working on a project for a long term, it is a smart move to set aside a large bin specifically for that scrap. This will remove excessive confusion while you are keeping these for the recycling center. Convince everyone to become involved in the project and make them are aware of which bin is for and that you plan of recycling its contents.

If you are involved in an expensive project, you may want to invest in your very own recycling truck. That way you will not have any worry about it and can rest with peace that you are doing your part to make the best actions for the planet.

If you don’t have time to do everything right with this project yourself and do not want to take a recycling pickup service, you could also donate your biggest drywall material to a nonprofit organization that needs it.Some of these NGO will make use of the drywall to build a center or shelters for those in need.

Yesterday, Julia, my little friend’s niece came to me and showed me that her teacher taught them that carpet could be recycled.

– No it is not recyclable, I said mindlessly . It could be possible to use it again, but surely impossible to be recycled.

As she was keeping on arguing against me and even said that those carpet recyclers had their own association in the U.S.. I decided to go online and searched it out. As it appear, the little girl was amazingly correct. There is truly an organisation of carpet recyclers in North America. As I was keeping on searching, I found that there is even a construction waste recycler in my area that handle such items. I found about Recyconstruction and Recymobililer in my sector : they take care of recycling almost all appliances, furniture, electronic equipment and construction waste. I spoke to a recycling specialist, Jason, and he explained to me all the things that are recyclable as of now.

– Carpet is shredded and recycled for the plastic it contains, it might end up as a new carpet or something else made with plastic.
– Wood waste are sent to an electric producer, who use wood to generate power. The process is a smoke less combustion that do no impact on climate changes.
– Sheetrock are passed through some machines and transformed into powder, pulp and paint are taken off, and the remaining gypsum can serve in agriculture or serve to make new gypsum walls.

And it goes on and on to all type of material. It is incredibly amazing to understand that we are at that point. To people expecting to earn money by selling their old sofa or wood, It would be important to add that there are fees to recycle that type of material.

– We were only in the area of computer recycling before. However, since at some point we were exclusively recycling the items that we were getting since it was not worth to resell it, we were forced to charge a fee to some items that cost more to recycle than to send to landfill. Since we understood that people want to make a difference for the planet and were were OK with paying a little fee to help with the handling of the material, we thought it was time to add more recycling services that couldn’t be sustainable by their recyclable content to provide an alternative to landfill.

– Luckily, the service received an exceptional feedback, as it came to life when people started to realize about our impact on the planet, personally or on a business level. Businesses and building managers are getting more aware of the green advantages, reason why more and more building managers are fighting to become LEED certified.

Did William Daniel have proper advice on asbestos disposal? This resident of Ohio was fined $22,600, ordered to perform 208 hours of community service and was sentenced to 13 months imprisonment on 21 Feb 2002 for violating the Clean Air Act. Daniel had improperly disposed 469 bags of asbestos waste thereby causing a grave danger to public health. Depending on condition, we can divide asbestos into two major groups. Friable that which can crumble by hand pressure such as insulation Non-friable that which will not crumble under hand pressure such as asbestos sheets in good condition. If the asbestos is in a non-friable condition, we can leave it as it is. Safety will further improve by painting the surface and edges with a sealing paint that will not allow fibers to escape. Smoothening the edges or surface will release fibers and is dangerous. Friable asbestos has significant risk of breaking up during handling and needs special care. You should seek adequate advice on asbestos disposal before disposing this dangerous contaminant.

If you are unsure whether your appliance contains asbestos, it is best to contact the manufacturer directly and ask. Giving the model and year of manufacture would help. Ask for specialist advice on asbestos disposal if your appliances contain asbestos. You can use the yellow pages to locate manufacturers and people offering asbestos disposal services and advice. The key element of the disposal process lies in ensuring that fibers do not separate and fly into the air. Towards this end, experts advise that we dispose asbestos on a humid and a calm day and reduce the numbers of people involved to the bare minimum.

As we said above, so long as we observe common sense precautions in accordance with advice on asbestos disposal and ensure that fibers do not contaminate surroundings and the quantities involved are small, there is no danger of running foul of the Law. The information was offered by a photographer who used to deal with solar panel and roofing.

Bicycling is more and more becoming an accepted form of transportation in cities the world over. Nonetheless, with the mainstreaming of bicycling has come the call for rules of the road, setting up a clash between rival camps of bicyclists.

On one side are the bicycle-as-vehicle proponents who argue that in order for bicycling to become fully accepted bicycles must be treated as vehicles and bicyclists need to conduct themselves as motorists are expected to, following all rules of the road. On the other side are those who still think in the original roots of bicycling as a carefree mode of transport that was informal and unregulated. These “bicycle originalists” believe that one simply hops on a bike and pedals – even if on the sidewalk, against traffic, and without a helmet.

The bicycle-as-vehicle crowd argues for principles, even in a park. It’s a veritable cultural war within the bicycling community, and has been for ages. This is an interesting, and even amusing, situation, when one considers how uniform motorists are compared to cyclists who, true to form, are as free-thinking as their free-ranging methods may suggest.

But a bicycle is not a “vehicle,” unless one defines “vehicle” as being synonymous with “means” – in which case our feet are vehicles, or means, too. A bicycle almost by no means kills, whereas auto accidents give rise to multiple industries. It is unfortunate but perhaps inevitable that the mainstreaming of bicycling ought to attract literalists, literal-minded souls and soulless minds which are blind to the spirit of things and can only perceive, robot-like, according to rigid guidelines which can never fully encompass all the situations that arise in life – real life, as in fact lived…and ridden.

A bicyclist is nothing more than an “extended pedestrian.” A bicyclist is nothing more than an empowered pedestrian – a pedal-powered pedestrian. While required precautions ought to be taken, precautions unique to the act of bicycling, in no circumstance does bicycling ever even begin to approach all that is involved with operating a vehicle.

The BP oil spill is still getting a lot of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, even after BP’s “success” over the weekend. After three weeks of continuous spillage, some scientists believe there is far more to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico than what can be seen on the surface. What’s more, these deep, undersea plumes of oil are approaching a current that could carry the oil spill to the Florida Keys and beyond.

Little too late for BP oil response?

The BP oil spill response has had many failed attempts. Monday the BP oil spill response team announced that company engineers had inserted a metal tube into the end of the broken pipe that is allowing some of the oil that was spilled to be siphoned to a surface ship. Voice of America reports that BP Vice President Kent Wells says the method will reduce the amount of oil spewing into the water. The next step is to try to pump mud and other materials to the sea floor and block the well.

The Gulf coast oil spill with 30 million gallons and counting

Based on BP and U.S. Coast Guard estimates, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010 has already dumped nearly 5.67 million gallons into the sea, — an easy payday loan compared to the cleanup costs that may be required for other estimates. As reported at skytruth.org, Dr. Ian MacDonald from Florida State University produced an estimate based on the U.S. Coast Guard aerial over flight map of the oil slick on April 28 that suggests a minimum flow rate of slightly more than 1.1 million gallons of oil (26,500 barrels) per day. We’re now in Day 27 of the spill, which began with a blowout and explosion on April 20, so according to those estimates more than 30 million gallons may have been spilled into the Gulf of Mexico. Other scientists have estimated the spill at up to 3.4 million gallons a day.

Deep undersea plumes in the Gulf Coast oil spill

With the official estimates of the Exxon Valdez spill at 11 million gallons a day, the BP oil leak makes it look like nothing. Although the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has yet to reach the shoreline for the most part, the New York Times reports that scientists are finding enormous oil plumes in deeper waters, including one as large as 10 miles long, 3 miles wide and 300 feet thick. The plumes are depleting the oxygen dissolved in the gulf. Scientists believe the oxygen levels will go so low that they will kill most undersea life near the plumes.

Oil spill may drift to Florida Keys

The Gulf of Mexico 2010 oil spill is going closer to a Loop Current. Reuters reports that scientists say once the BP oil leak is in the loop, it could reach the Florida Keys in just 10 days. This loop is simply a ribbon of warm water that starts in the Gulf of Mexico and courses around Florida. There are scientists that think the current will draw the oil slick through the keys and then north up Florida’s Atlantic Coast. They think the spill could miss Miami and Fort Lauderdale but wash up around Palm Beach.

Tropical marine life endangered by Gulf Coast oil spill

On the course to defile the third longest barrier reef in the world, the 221 mile long Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, the oil spill may lead to millions of tourist dollars leaving Florida’s floundering economy. The toxic oil slick can smother and kill the corals, causing a chain reaction of carnage among thousands of species of exotic marine life that live in and around reefs.

Ask yourself, when was the last time you recycled any batteries? It is quite possible that you never have, which is disappointing, but not surprising, as less than 5% of batteries get recycled. It is a strange anomaly as recycling batteries is no more difficult than recycling paper, plastic, glass, etc. which most of us at least try to recycle these days.

Many supermarkets and shops that sell batteries now have collection boxes for used batteries. Also, some town halls, libraries or schools have also set up collection points for recycling batteries. So, it is no excuse to say that recycling batteries is too inconvenient. If you spend five minutes looking online for places to recycle batteries in your local area then you will certainly find a few.

Let’s now look at the most common battery types in a bit more detail…

Button batteries : These batteries, which are used in watches and hearing aids amongst other things, can have the mercury-oxide and silver-oxide reclaimed from them. This means that not only are there environmental benefits but there are economic ones too. For this reason, jewelers and pharmacies are happy to take these expired batteries from you because they can actually make some money from them.

Car batteries : Companies who sell car batteries are legally obliged in most countries to help with the recycling of expired car batteries, and so you can take your old ones to them and let them take care of the rest of the process. They will have contacts who can melt down the plastic components (to be used for new plastic products) and turn the lead into new batteries.

Household batteries : It is a shame that these batteries, which are the most common type (used in children’s toys, clocks, torches, etc.), cannot really be used for anything else once they have run out, however, that does not mean that you should not take them to a battery recycling point. They need to be properly disposed of to avoid causing damage to the environment, and the only way that can happen is if the chemicals are drained from them before they are disposed of.

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon draws upward of five million visitors a year, a fact which is both a blessing and a curse to one of our most valuable national treasures. Every one of those five million humans impact a natural phenomenon that began at least 17 million years ago, transforming a quiet wilderness to an often noisy, crowded recreational area.

Because of the depredations caused by the invasion of humanity, a group of river outfitters established the Grand Canyon Conservation Fund to try to mitigate the damages done by both visitors and profit-oriented vested interests. The non-profit organization addresses issues that affect Grand Canyon park management while simultaneously attempting to maintain its ecological and aesthetic integrity.

Managed entirely by volunteer outfitters, the Fund is used to help non-commercial conservation groups to offer the outdoor experience to those who are unable to access them because of economic or physical issues. About eighty percent of river trip passengers donate a dollar a day to the Fund when booking their Grand Canyon River Rafting trip through one of these licensed professionals. Because there are no administrative costs, every cent of these donations is used for protecting the Grand Canyon and allowing less privileged individuals to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime camping adventure. Grants are never awarded to profit-making companies, government agencies or individuals, but rather to selected groups, as determined by officers of the Grand Canyon Conservation Fund.

The GCCF also advocates against noise and carbon emission by limiting the use of helicopters and motorized rafts on the river and, in a series of legal actions brought against the National Park Services, was able to limit the number, location and seasonal use of offending vehicles. Partially due to these restrictions, only one river trip per year is allowed for any individual. This means that reservations cannot be made by anyone who has taken a river trip during the last calendar year.

Although the proprietors of the white water rafting businesses that surround the Colorado River obviously make a living by booking trips, they are more invested in conservation and maintenance of the Canyon than in lining their pockets. The tireless efforts of the Grand Canyon Conservation Fund to keep this precious natural resource as pristine as possible is to be applauded by all who are fortunate enough to spend time in this most breathtaking of all our National Parks.

You know bike culture is growing continuously regardless of if slowly when you start seeing more and more recumbent bicycles on the roads of a place like NY City, previously one of the most notoriously bicycle-unfriendly cities around and still host to irritable drivers and hostile policemen.

It has for a while been recognized that a reclined rider position, with the frame geometries completely unique to that situation, make for better aerodynamics and quicker speeds so fast, in reality the land record for speed in a human-powered vehicle is held by a recumbent bicycle.

So fast, actually that early on bicycle races banned recumbent due to the design’s inherent benefits. After winning a few races, it became quite clear that, all else being more or less equal, a recumbent rider was sure to victory each time. And so the recumbent quickly faded from popular view and has been banished to generally home-built designs.

But biking is quite the rage in Europe, particularly the more socially progressive nations like Germany and the Netherlands. In Germany, there is even a town which voted to ban all automobile traffic to the edges of the town, while in Holland there are plenty of more bicycles than autos on the road on any specific day! And so it is that in these states the recumbent bicycle has found reasonably widespread adoption, and the trend looks to be catching on even in a rough place like New York.

Recumbents, or bents for short, can be found in one or two different designs, from low-riders that look just about as if the person is laying down supine to choppers that almost look like classic motorcycle designs. In fact , ‘bents’ are a whole lot more varied than regular bicycles ( also known as uprights ) are, which is 1 reason why they aren’t yet as widely supported by bike shops in the United States.

With the large amounts of waste that is created in UK households each year, effective rubbish removal strategies are becoming more of a necessity. Every week seems to bring new stories about the effects of global warming, therefore more people are aware of the causes and what can be done to help reduce the effects. For people to start to consider how they can attempt to help reduce the effects of climate change, it helps to understand exactly what kind of facts and figures are involved in waste disposal.

Each person in the UK annually disposes an average of around about 500kg of waste, this equates to over 30 million tonnes of domestic waste alone that needs to be dealt with each year. When you look at the recycling figures for the annual domestic waste, you can start to understand one of the major areas where the general public can make a difference~By looking at the domestic waste recycling rates it makes it clear that this is an area where each person can start to make a difference}. Of the 30 million tonnes of waste produced in homes each year, around 60% of it could potentially be recycled, however, only about 30% actually is.

The above figures only relate to the levels of domestic waste, when you take into consideration the rest of the waste that is produced in the UK the figures make for even worse reading. The overall total comes in at around about 440 million tonnes per annum. At the current rate, it would take only a week to fill Wembley Stadium with the rubbish that is being disposed. The rates of recycling is dreadful for the overall waste figures. Almost 75% of waste is taken to be dumped at landfill sites, this is a massive amount when you consider that almost 90% of it could be either recycled, re-used or used to make other energy sources.

When you take the above figures into consideration, it shows that it is fairly easy to start making your own small impact on recycling figures. By ensuring your rubbish removal is managed effectively and efficiently you can help to make a difference.
