How to Detoxify Your Home
Chemicals abound in the modern home. From plastic in the kitchen to makeup in the bathroom to flame retardants in clothing and drapes. We are surrounded by, almost immersed in, chemicals. Have these checmicals impacted our health, and the health of our children? The manufacturers say “No”. Do you trust them?
Try these tips.
For flooring, use tile, hardwood or non-toxic wool carpeting. If you must use other types of carpeting, use a vacuum with a HEPA filter.
Most of the day-to-day candles that you buy at the variety store are petroleum-based. Some of them even have lead-core wicks. Purchase only pure beeswax candles
Only buy paint that contains minimal VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Visit this page for info on lower VOC paint.
Replace non-stick pans with ceramic or cast iron.
Replace plastic storage containers with glass ones.
Replace plastic drinking bottles with lightweight metal bottles.
Purchase natural cleaning products and things like air fresheners and furniture polishes. Look for products made by companies such as Nature Clean Living, or make your own from recipes available on the internet.
Most soaps and shampoos contain synthetic fragrances and chemicals.
Replace cosmetics with mineral-based formulas free of carcinogens and petrochemicals.
Stop buying name-brand perfumes. Instead, purchase pure essential oils.
