Waste Disposal Statistics
With the large amounts of waste that is created in UK households each year, effective rubbish removal strategies are becoming more of a necessity. Every week seems to bring new stories about the effects of global warming, therefore more people are aware of the causes and what can be done to help reduce the effects. For people to start to consider how they can attempt to help reduce the effects of climate change, it helps to understand exactly what kind of facts and figures are involved in waste disposal.
Each person in the UK annually disposes an average of around about 500kg of waste, this equates to over 30 million tonnes of domestic waste alone that needs to be dealt with each year. When you look at the recycling figures for the annual domestic waste, you can start to understand one of the major areas where the general public can make a difference~By looking at the domestic waste recycling rates it makes it clear that this is an area where each person can start to make a difference}. Of the 30 million tonnes of waste produced in homes each year, around 60% of it could potentially be recycled, however, only about 30% actually is.
The above figures only relate to the levels of domestic waste, when you take into consideration the rest of the waste that is produced in the UK the figures make for even worse reading. The overall total comes in at around about 440 million tonnes per annum. At the current rate, it would take only a week to fill Wembley Stadium with the rubbish that is being disposed. The rates of recycling is dreadful for the overall waste figures. Almost 75% of waste is taken to be dumped at landfill sites, this is a massive amount when you consider that almost 90% of it could be either recycled, re-used or used to make other energy sources.
When you take the above figures into consideration, it shows that it is fairly easy to start making your own small impact on recycling figures. By ensuring your rubbish removal is managed effectively and efficiently you can help to make a difference.
