What’s wrong with incandescent bulbs? Edison worked hard to perfect them.
The biggest problem, maybe the only one, is that they are too hot. About 95% of the electricity that goes into them ends up as heat.
A 23-watt compact fluorescent bulb gives as much light as a 100-watt incandescent bulb, which means that both you and society save 77-watts for each bulb you replace.
Oh, and that argument about the colour of the light? It’s going away as manufacturers create alternative colours. One of the ones that I just bought is more like daylight.
