It often seems that a man’s supposed reason for backing off is against common sense. By trying too hard to please the guy, serving his every need, in the end you are selling yourself as a doormat in his eyes. You should be careful how you present yourself and always respect who you are. Men do like to be treated well at times, but they also want a woman who has some strength.

One other thing to stop doing is to talk about your ex boyfriends. Men are competing when they are dating. They are constantly considering the potential threats to what they are trying to achieve, so if you mention exs then he will naturally start to compare  himself against them. Again, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t say a thing. Personal history and background are important. Knowing that you dated one man throughout high school and college is important. If you go on about how he was a star football player with awards and scholarships etc then you are going too far. Focusing on one ex will sell the idea that either you still have feelings for him, or if it is all negative, you will cause your date to over analyze themselves.

And whatever you do don’t look to be changing him. You can’t. A man thinks that being solid and reliable is the best thing for a woman, so when you start with the attempts to change him he feels he is not naturally what you want. Even if he does not have a problem, attempts at change will challenge his masculinity and you will not learn how to get ex back.
