Is My Boyfriend Too Selfish?
My boyfriend works for a UK contract hire company supplying cars, vans and trucks mainly to business customers. He loves his job, which is a good thing, but he can’t stop talking about it.
Every night he comes home raving about the latest incredible deal from his showroom or the latest model of car he has taken for a test drive that day. He is a complete petrol-head (I think the Americans call them gear heads) who avidly watches every motoring programme on television. At weekends he takes me out, but only to various motoring events. It’s a sad fact that if cars are not involved, neither are we.
For last year’s vacation he decided that we would go to the United States. I was beside myself with excitement as I had never visited the United States before. But he had decided we would be attending the NASCAR Sprint Cup Races at the Daytona 500. So I spent my whole holiday listening to various enthusiastic petrol and gear heads talking about brake horse power, performance figures and the like. What’s more, I managed to put on 10 pounds in weight due to my eating nothing but fast food for the duration.
So the future of this particular relationship is now looking very uncertain. My chap is not such a bad fella. He can be a very caring and attentive man but, like many, he can become obsessive about things, especially cars. Currently the subject of his obsession is cars. I’ve wondered if I would be having the same doubts if his interest matched my own, but I somehow can’t see him taking much of an interest in shopping, clothes and make-up any time soon.
I’m thinking that the time has come for an open and honest heart-to-heart to discuss the future, if there is any, for our relationship. I need to tell him that I am really not interested in going to every motoring event on the U.K. calendar. And I’m not really very happy to spend my holiday breathing in noxious fumes and listening to car talk. I want to enjoy a little wining and dining and when I’m on holiday I want to relax in the sunshine. Instead I’ve become an expert on the latest Audi Contract Hire deals and the performance figures of various BMWs.

womannn i totally agree. men seem to think that their goals and interests take precident over everyone elses. The fact that hge would make you go all the way to the states for a vacation without even asking you where you would like to go is bullshit because i’m sure it cost alot. it would have been much better if you went somewhere in the carribean to enjoy the white sand beaches and clear water. i certainly hope there are guys left out there who arent selfish otherwise i’m stickign with women forever.
