A selection of people with excellent skills consented to join him, and he had a preference for racing cars and sports cars. Their specific skills were in high demand, with the high end sedan from Austria, the Steyr, being one of their projects. A model was developed, however the project was finally abandoned. Their group of people also did a lot of work for Auto Union, which currently is Audi, the company that first developed economy cars with front-wheel drive.

The V-12 engine, along with the V-16, which were supercharged, were developed by them for the mid-engine Grand Prix racing cars. For almost a decade, they took over European auto racing, coupled with Mercedes-Benz racer. During the period following that both Zundapp and NSU applied the designs they were best known for. Some well-known Porsche protoypes ended up being the torsion-bar suspension, patented by them, and the rear-mounted engine. Neither company manufactured the designs fast enough for Porsche, so he made a sale of the plan to the German government.
